The draft of the Residence Casgrain was born of an intention to live in a residential area while taking advantage of open living spaces that can provide the transformation into a residence of commercial or industrial buildings that dot some of these districts. The program is to create fluid and permeable living spaces, which interpenetrate each other physically and visually. The idea is to preserve the impression of magnitude of an interior volume, while creating usable surfaces inside the volume while keeping it virtually intact. Wooden balconies ( roasted maple), clinging to the existing structure, seem to float in space, and qualify spaces as rooms on the mezzanine and spaces below hosting the lobby, the work space and its library, the kitchen and the bathroom. A central space in the entrance is preserved and hosts the most public areas: the living room and the dining area.
